I'm a PhD student at the University of Michigan's Department of Communication and Media. My research interests revolve around political communication and journalism studies, including the public's relationship with news and how technology impacts news media and political communication.
I received my MA from the University of Minnesota's Hubbard School of Journalism & Mass Communication in 2025. My thesis project focused on an emerging practice in U.S. newsrooms: source tracking, or the approach where journalists or news organizations systematically collect and analyze characteristics of quoted sources.
Before attending graduate school, I was a journalist, most recently working as a producer at WAMU 88.5 in Washington, D.C.
Here is my most recent CV. I sometimes post links to work-in-progress and presentations on my Linktree. Want to get in touch? Email me at grannan@umich.edu
